Maboneng
Restaurants

There are a number of Maboneng Restaurants in the hip new enclave of Maboneng, on the eastern periphery of inner-city Johannesburg.

A Sotho word that means 'Place of Light', Maboneng took its name from a piece of artwork on the roof of the first development, Arts on Main, and was until a few years ago, a no-go area of filth and deserted industrial property.

Propertuity, the property development company in conjunction with Enrico Daffonchio architects, began the ongoing transformation of the neighbourhood in 2009, into what is today a very hip, arty, inner city, mixed use space.

Artists and urban art played a big role in the metamorphosis of this metropolitan landscape, which include these restaurants that share the precinct with loft apartments, retail stores, a cinema, offices, an hotel, a museum and inspired factory spaces!
