Europcar South Africa and Imperial Car Rental joined forces in 2007, and in June 2009 launched the single Europcar brand.
Imperial Car Rental was started by well known business personality, Carol Scott, with an asset base of nine cars and a long-term vision of developing a car rental company that South Africa could call its own.
Her vision became a reality when Imperial Holdings CEO, the late Bill Lynch, saw the potential in the fledgling business venture and gave it his full backing.
Since then they have grown to be the largest home-grown car rental company in South Africa. This success can be attributed to the company's 'think big' philosophy and their promise to provide an outstanding personal service - a promise which still holds strong in the business today.
In forming the single synergised brand of Europcar, the company's vision of being a player in the global markets of travel, transport and tourism, has been realised.
The Europcar brand enables customers to have instant rental access to a global fleet of over 220,000 vehicles at over 3,000 locations in over 160 countries.
The local fleet, which offers a wide selection in respect of size, variety and features, peaks at over 16,000 vehicles at over 120 locations across 5 the Southern African countries of South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland.
Despite the changes, Europcar still remains 100% owned by Imperial Holdings and will always be a fiercly proud South African organisation.
